Rev. Cheryl Mitchell Gaines is an ordained minister,
attorney and Founder/Executive Director of Phoenix Rising Ministries,
a ministry dedicated to the prevention of child sexual abuse
by engaging the Black church leadership. As a legal advocate,
she is committed to building bridges between the world of child
welfare and the faith community. She has broad experience in
child welfare, juvenile justice and faith- and community-based
initiatives. Her former work includes: Chaplain with the New
York State Office of Children and Family Services, a faith community
developer of program services, Director of the Youth and Family
Project at the University of Rochester and Staff Consultant
with the MayaTech® Corporation under the Substance Abuse
Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) HIV Prevention
and Substance Abuse Prevention in Minority Communities Initiative.
Rev. Gaines is graduate of Tulane Law School and a founding
partner of Shekinah Legal Group, PLLC, www.shekinahlegalgroup.com
a Washington, DC-based law firm. She also holds a Masters of
Divinity Degree in Theology from Colgate Rochester Divinity
School and currently serves on the ministerial staff of the
Temple of Praise church www.thetempleofpraise.org
